One of the pioneers behind Bierzo’s restoration was Alvaro Palacios, a man who travelled through Spain dreaming of the finest location to perfect the greatest Spanish red. One of two potential sites he unearthed was indeed Bierzo. In 1998, Palacios returned with his nephew Ricardo Pérez and settled in Corrullón on the western border. Having purchased several old hillside vineyards, they produced their first vintage in 1999 that was named ‘Descendientes de José Palcios’, in memory of Alvaro’s late father, José. The exceptional wines produced under this name are a perfect reflection and a tribute to the deep, historical wine-growing personality of the Corullón hills.
Tasting Note:
This wine embodies the rich flora and fauna of Bierzo. Made entirely from aged Mencía vines in Corullón and other local municipalities, it’s young and fragrant with the power to express the hues and shades of the local landscape.
