Originally owned by a notorious band of smugglers, the Ardbeg distillery was officially established as a legal commercial concern when the MacDougalls of Islay obtained their production licence in 1815.
Ardbeg’s white-washed walls can be found nestling in a rocky cove on Islay’s southern tip along the famous road from Port Ellen. Ardbeg is, perhaps, the most peaty malt whisky in the world - certainly of all the Islay malts.
Ardbeg’s strength is that it does not flaunt the peat; rather it gives way to the malt, the natural sweetness of which subtly intrudes and produces the perfect balance. This beautiful malt enjoys enduring protection from all things bad by the loyal Ardbeg Committee - a worldwide family of Ardbeg aficionados in 90 countries who work tirelessly to drink more Ardbeg and bring others into its esteemed fold.
