Charles Melton Wines has produced premium Barossa red wines, at their winery on Krondorf Road, since 1984. It was in the mid 80's that Charlie and a small band of Barossa winemakers turned their winemaking efforts to what was considered then a couple of unfashionable varieties; Shiraz and Grenache. Charlie modelled his first wine, Nine Popes, on the most famous Grenache blend in the world, Châteauneuf du Pape – hence the name.
Tasting Note: The Nine Popes has lots of blackberries, and ripe plums on the nose, as well as hints of aniseed, sweet liquorice, and cinnamon. The palate is full bodied, but well balanced by the acidity with good integrated tannins. The fruit flavours really shine through, especially on the long finish.
