Hawke’s Bay Craggy Range was born in 1997, when Terry Peabody and Steve Smith MW set about buying vineyards in New Zealand and planting them with strategically chosen vines to fully express the unique characteristics of each vineyard’s terroir. Receiving international acclaim, this simple philosophy drives the entire system of farming and winemaking at Craggy Range. Above all, it’s a family run business, where Terry’s son TJ and daughter Mary-Jeanne sell wines worldwide and Terry’s wife Mary oversees the adjoining fine-dining ‘Terroir’ restaurant. Youngest son David meanwhile works as company director. There are three winemakers at Craggy Range, each sharing responsibility over wines for which they have a collective passion.
Tasting Note: Fresh peach and citrus aromas dominate the nose, with an echo of buttered toast. The palate is a generous, silky medley of peach and grapefruit flavours, framed by the sensitive use of oak and clean cool acidity, leaving an invigorating, powerful finish.
