2010 saw the hotly anticipated launch of Balenciaga Paris, Balenciaga's first fragrance since 1998. Balenciaga Paris is the first Balenciaga frangrance crafted under creative director Nicolas Ghesquière, with a campaign fronted by actress and singer Charlotte Gainsbourg, often referred to as Ghesquière's muse. The same uncompromising standards that made Balenciaga couture legendary are present in Balenciaga perfumes, not only in the scent, but in the sophisticated bottle designs too. In the words of Cristóbal Balenciaga: "A good couturier must be an architect for design, a sculptor for shape, a painter for colour, a musician for harmony and a philosopher for temperance."
