Chartreuse

For centuries Chartreuse has been made by Carthusian monks who have guarded the secrets of its recipe, comprised from 130 different herbs and plants. Green Chartreuse, first produced in 1764, was made as a milder version of the original elixir, which was said to have healing powers. The Chartreuse range of high quality spirits and liqueurs are still made by the monks of the Chartreuse Abbey, near Grenoble, France.
