MACLAREN
+MoreWith baby brings an array of wonder, enchantment and possibilities. These same emotions ignited Owen Maclaren to revolutionise baby transport in 1965 with an ingenious invention. Dreaming of possibilities, Maclaren began toiling away on buggy prototypes in the converted stables of his restored medieval farmhouse, Arnold House in the village of Barby, Northamptonshire England.
The realisation of this dream was the world’s first 3D umbrella fold buggy, the B-01. Its bold blue and white Butchers Stripe seat paired with a shiny aluminium frame became an instant hit with parents. Most importantly, his daughter, along with generations of parents could easily carry, fold and store the buggy in tight spaces like aeroplanes, trains and apartments. It weighed just 3kg and could fit into the same amount of space as an umbrella.
Although Owen Maclaren was retired when he designed the B-01, the wondrous possibilities of his life as a test pilot and Spitfire engineer were still in his heart. This relentless approach to innovation and safety continues today with Maclaren’s full array of parenting solutions to transport your baby from pregnancy to birth and all the way through a toddler’s playful wanderlust. - less
