This month,
The Review offers a helping hand through summer's key trend: prints. Angela Missoni talks of the power of a vibrant zigzag, while our photo shoot reveals how prints can be soft, ladylike and supremely elegant, all in one go. And don't miss our ode to HRH The Queen, who's having her own very special - not to mention fashionable - moment.

The first lady of prints talks to Nicola Copping
The creative director of the eponymous Italian label, famed for its vibrant knitwear and colourful zigzag patterns, talks family, fame, and Lady Gaga.Missoni has one of the strongest style DNAs in fashion. How do you begin to balance the heritage of the house while staying modern?
I think my parents invented a style: they were breaking rules and did many things - much more than just a zigzag pattern. Of course, it has been a fantastic school. I've learned everything - the invention was done by my parents after all. Maybe that's why I'm never scared to look forward and add print and pattern, design and silhouettes. I never really look back but I do know the archive by heart. I know what Missoni is and I know I can take it forward but I don't fear doing new things.
Today, maybe I would
like to dress Lady GagaHow do you think the fashion industry has changed from your parents' era?
Everything has changed! Particularly in the last 20 years, because the world has changed and the audience is much wider. I remember doing a fashion show in 1971 at the factory with an audience of 150 people - the entire fashion crowd. Today the fashion crowd consists of I don't know how many people!
What was the inspiration behind your Spring/Summer collection?
The inspiration is very clear this season - it was Spain and flamenco. I wanted the dresses to move almost, to give you the joy of moving and dancing.
Your children, and particularly your daughter Margherita, are involved in the business - is that nice to see your own family develop?
Yes of course. It's nice to know that what you're doing today, they can continue. So you work with more enthusiasm than if you were thinking of selling.
What are your top style tips?
My personal top style tips have changed with my body over the years of course, but some things I never change. I enhance the waist always by wrapping something around it. The clothes I love the most are basically a barrier, ones I can wrap around myself, in other words trying to define the silhouette and what you have!
What is your advice for wearing prints?
Take black as your starting point and add a piece of print little by little. Add colour on top of black or neutrals.
Who do you admire in the fashion industry?
I've grown up in this business, I've seen so much from a young age, and I've seen my mother admiring the past. From Coco Chanel and the invention she did at the time - the knitwear, the jerseys, the cuts - to all the fantastical and extravagant designers of today, such as Galliano or Gaultier, or Alaïa who always stays true to himself.
If you could dress anybody, past or present, in Missoni, who would you choose?
For a house that has spent so many years in fashion, we've dressed almost everybody, from Audrey Hepburn in the '60s to Charlotte Rampling, Madonna and Gwyneth Paltrow. Today, maybe I would like to dress Lady Gaga…
If you could describe Missoni in three words, what would they be?
Three words are really too little for Missoni; Missoni is more than three words. It's of course colour; we know it's action because it's vibrant; we can say it's pattern, it's a style; but it's also very feminine and masculine.

How to wear: printed jeans
Whether leopard, Aztec, floral or check, this summer's printed jean is set to be an unmissable wardrobe staple. In our humble opinion there are two distinct ways to wear statement denim. The first (and Review favourite) evokes hot Riviera days when nothing works better than a crisp white shirt (tied at the waist, optional) and floral jeans topped off with a so-now mule, and of course, a St. Tropez tan. The second is to make like style queen Miranda Kerr (above) and opt for leopard, paired with chic flats and tweed of course.

A timely tribute to our Queen of style
QUEEN OF FROCK (COATS)
On official engagements, the Queen is, well, queen at rocking the formal coat. For posh summer events - think Ascot, Henley or country pile weddings - follow her lead in rich patterns and below-the-knee cuts from Moschino, Lanvin and more. They'll make one look top notch.

Forget patriotic memorabilia and timely trinkets, we'll be celebrating the Jubilee via our wardrobes. Denim masters J Brand are handily producing jeans in red, white and blue (coming soon) and we're already lusting after Judith Leiber's Union Jack clutch.

HRH's Balmoral style has never been more in demand. A champion of quilted jackets, silk scarves and light knits, her regal look has become irreverently cool in recent years. Get Royal style status in this Barbour jacket, D&G scarf and corgi Joules jumper (tiara optional).

Lashings of leather and prints, oh my!

Gone To Print
Question: can anyone top Givenchy in the to-die-for print stakes? Based on this gothic orchid tote and luxe python Antigona, we think not. The label's prints have been sported by the crème de la crème of the fashion world - when ex-French Vogue editor Carine's in it (above), you know it's cool - and these exotic designs offer a simple way to introduce a graphic twist into every day. If SS12's clashing print suits or geometric pyjama styles (eek) aren't your thing, this is the answer.

Champing At The Bit
The fabulously foldable Le Pliage bag has long been a staple at Review HQ as a work bag, gym bag, whatever-goes bag. But hang on a second - the brand spanking new Pliage Cuir has us itching for an upgrade. The wipe-clean canvas has been traded in for thick, creamy - still foldable - leather in a range of neutral and zesty shades. Its sturdier, sophisticated (and still delightfully spacious) take on the classic Longchamp shape makes this the perfect piece for the office.

Tech A Look At Me
Fear not DVF fans, the designer's punchy prints are not just limited to her clothing. Yes, she's got some gorgeous geometric silk scarves too, but we're talking about an altogether more contemporary accessory. Von Furstenberg's gone all techy on us with these glorious iPhone covers and iPad cases, decked out in modern William Morris-esque prints. We especially love this bluebell-hued beach tote - surely the most stylish way to cart around your Ray-Bans and Kindle?

Snake Charmers
Even without the flute and woven basket, this recent influx of snakeskin lovelies had us utterly entranced. A slightly more grown-up print than leopard or cheetah, python screams elegant and expensive (and rather sexy). There's something very '70s Biba about the new take on this stylish skin, with these Studio 54-worthy platforms, T-bars and wedges from Lanvin, Brian Atwood and new-in D&G. Conjure us up a pair pronto.

The Long And Shorts Of It
Men, we'll be brief: it's time to talk swimwear. If your preference is for preppy, dip your toes into Orlebar Brown's multi-tasking shorts in primary shades. Or, if you're feeling bold, take a tip from the film The Descendants (trust us, George is never wrong) and plunge headfirst into so-kitsch-they're-cool prints from Vilebrequin (pictured). And remember, baggy is the enemy: think Elvis (left), not Eminem.

It’s all about the three C’s: couture, colour and customisation

The Smell Of Success
You can always count on Givenchy for a dash of gothic glamour, so it's little surprise that its AW12 runway left us lusting after black leather and delicate lace. Now our favourite fragrances have had their own new season make-over with the launch of Les Parfums Couture, exclusive to Harrods. You'll find the likes of the Organza and Very Irrésistible Givenchy fragrances in dolled up flaçons inspired by the Parisian show. From now on we'll be wearing a little couture everyday (technically…).

Gloss It Over
Boasting a red carpet positively aglow with metallics, May's Met Costume Institute Gala proved that this season, it's all about the shimmer. So echoing this 'the shinier the better' ethos, we've set our sights on Estée Lauder's Pure Color Gloss. Available in a brand new sequin finish exclusive to Harrods, this lip gloss is so dazzling it could even outshine Victoria's Secret model Karolina Kurkova's dress (above).

Up Close And Personal
This month's buzz word is bespoke says Annalise Quest, General Merchandise Manager for Beauty. "French brand IOMA, exclusive to Harrods, takes skin diagnosis to new heights. After recording the skin with a high definition camera, a machine analyses the results and recommends a tailored regime from the Beauty Pro Line, available at Harrods and harrods.com. IOMA then offers a bespoke service by adding a variation of 18 ingredients into the base from the machine's results."

Little Italy
Now we've seen a hint of spring, it's officially okay to start the holiday countdown. In the meantime, we're transporting ourselves to warmer climes with the exclusive Blu Mediterraneo collection from Acqua di Parma. Each sun-drenched scent captures a different Mediterranean setting, meaning you can take off to Capri, Sicily, Calabria or the Amalfi coast with a simple spritz. It's Italy in a bottle - no bikini required.

Harrods' Chief Merchant on the perfect holiday wardrobe
This summer I'll
be escaping to the south of France or Cape Cod and Martha's Vineyard for a holiday with my children, so it's key to have a perfectly edited capsule wardrobe. I'll wear Pucci in Cape Cod, be it on the balcony for breakfast in my new silk paisley print Pucci pyjamas (true luxury) or by the sea in a Pucci kaftan. As for the south of France, stripy sweaters
and T-shirts by James Perse and J Brand shorts are perfect. I finish the look with a panama hat - the ultimate in sunshine chic.
Working Girl
The linchpin of my working wardrobe is a wonderful Alaïa dress. Mr Alaïa is a genius when it comes to fit. I have 10 of his fabulous dresses in my wardrobe and they never fail to look smart but a little sexy too. I also love Roland Mouret for his perfectly formed shift dresses with a twist (right) and chic Céline coats.
Summer Skincare
I take care to protect my skin in the sun and I swear by Sisley for sunscreen. Not only does it prevent burning but it smells divine too.
Estée Lauder's Take It Away wipes remove all traces of make-up and pollution to leave skin clean and refreshed pre-exposure to sun.

Now we understand why diamonds are a girl’s best friend
Shop Georg JensenWhat better to wear for the Diamond Jubilee than, well, diamonds? Luckily for us, Georg Jensen had the same idea with their heirloom-worthy Regitze collection. Fusing 18kt white gold and pavé-set diamond discs, this fluid drop necklace - plus matching earrings - is surely the next best thing to the Crown Jewels.
Founded as a silversmith in Copenhagen in 1904, Georg Jensen's refined Scandinavian style is evidenced across the brand's timeless fine jewellery collection.
