DUCRU-BEAUCAILLOU Croix de Beaucaillou 2005, St-Julien
£74.95 Product Code 2618845
From a super vintage, the Croix de Beaucaillou 2005 is a splendid wine, which is possibly one of the best vintages of the estate’s second label. An impressive nose, filled with dark berry fruit and cherries leads the way to a plush and full-bodied palate. Plenty of new oak gives depth and breadth, and a long finish completes this majestic wine.

The origins of Château Ducru-Beaucaillou lie in the 18th century – specifically 1720, when the property was established – and the estate quickly obtained a good reputation in France and abroad. Beaucaillou, which translates as beautiful pebbles, refers to the large stones that characterise its unique terroir and provide ideal wine-growing conditions. This exceptional eco-system produces wines with both finesse and elegance – in short, classic St-Julien wines. The majestic, Victorian-style castle which graces the centre of the estate has become one of the great symbols of the Médoc. Unusually for Bordeaux, it is built directly above the barrel cellars, enveloping its owners – who have lived here for over 60 years – in the sumptuous aromas of their wine. Today the estate is managed by the Borie family company and owned by Mrs Borie, her daughter Sabine Coiffe and her son Bruno-Eugène who has been Chief Executive Officer since 2003. Such ownership represents the third generation of Borie family to head the estate.
