Ripe red berry fruit intensified with mocha and liquorice notes. Fragrance and perfume is aided by the Viognier. Plum, blackberry, cherry and cassis are the dominant flavours, with a structure that is tight and tense to promote graceful ageing for many years.

Situated on the east coast of New Zealand’s North Island, Trinity Hill is a collaborative venture between three founding partners – John Hancock, Robert and Robyn Wilson (owners of London’s ‘Bleeding Heart’ and ‘The Don’ restaurants), plus Aucklanders Trevor and Hanne Janes. Highly regarded for his capabilities in both the cellar and vineyard, John Hancock has extensive experience in Australia, France and New Zealand. Assisting in the cellar is Warren Gibson, who also brings notable global experience including vintages across California, Burgundy, Italy and Hungary. The idea for the winery first came about in 1987, when a shared passion for New Zealand wine between the three families was realised. But it was not until 1993 that the first block of land was purchased – some 20 hectares of prime grape growing land in the Gimblett Road area of Hawke’s Bay. The first barrel-aged Gimblett Road wines were released in 1998 to critical acclaim, with a number of gold medals and trophies following soon after. Since then, the winery and full winemaking facilities have been built and further awards deservedly won.
