Originally named La Maison Noble du Bayle, Pierre Guiraud purchased the estate in 1766. Within 80 years and three generations, Guiraud had become a prestigious growth, recognized in 1855 as a first growth by the imperial classification. In 2006 Château Guiraud changed hands to four personalities: an industrialist and three wine makers, who shared a passion for wines, gastronomy and nature. This art de vivre, carried over to their philosophy for creating their superb wines. Nestled in Sauternes, only Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc are planted at Guiraud. Harvest is carried out entirely by hand in successive waves or selections, only the botrytised berries in optimum condition are picked from the vineyard. Fermentation is then carried out in batches, until the wine reaches its own equilibrium, followed by ageing for 24 months in barrel.
