Overview

Tasting Note:
Rare vintage 1988 first reveals its generous amplitude – a powerful and elegant wine, of great finesse. The palate is creamy with a smoky, oily and toasty character. A sophisticated, warm wine with a lovely toasty and citrussy structure.

In 1785 Florens-Louis Heidsieck founded his Champagne house. Upon his death, nephew Christian Heidsieck and cousin Henri-Guillaume Piper assumed control of the house in 1828, only changing the name to Piper Heidsieck in 1839 – just one year after Henri Piper’s marriage to Christian Heidsieck’s widow in October 1838.

Rare is a blend chiefly of Chardonnay, completed by Pinot Noir. The Chardonnay comes from the Montagne de Reims. Its most striking characterise is its unusual expression of minerality.
