- Tasting Note:
The third instalment of Syrah from Wind Gap comes from quite a cool vintage, resulting in a wonderfully elegant wine to savour and enjoy. It has a fragrant nose, boasting blackberries, white pepper, nutmeg and leathery spice. Smooth and supple on the palate, this wine offers dark fruits, spice, tart cherries, mouth-watering acidity and ripe, fine tannins that cleanse the palate. It will age effortlessly and continue improving in the cellar for a decade or more.

The latest project from Pam and Pax Mahle is about making honest, authentic and compelling wines from specific windy sites. They have found some of the most exciting vineyards with optimum conditions for the grapes they love – Cabernet from south Napa; Chardonnay from the dramatic Chalone limestone; Grenache from the shale hills of western Paso Robles and Syrah from Sonoma. Importantly, each vineyard is directly influenced by a wind gap. These geological breaks in the coastal hills funnel wind inland and boost the growing and ripening of grapes.
