Rebecca Farrar-Hockley

Revealing her enviable shoe wardrobe, plus talking shoe staples, celeb Kurt Geiger fans and her seasonal inspirations, we caught up with Kurt Geiger Creative Director, Rebecca Farrar-Hockley...

Where do you draw inspiration for your designs?

A lot of what we design is born out of my desire to create pieces that my design team and I want to wear ourselves. I also love sitting outside, even in the middle of our British winters, so London and the world and women around us are my biggest design influences.

Why shoes - what drew you to becoming a footwear designer?

I'm tiny and they are the only things to make you taller!

Why do you feel women have such a strong connection with shoes?

Shoes have cult status, transform your shape and you don't have to have a model's proportions to fit into them.

Who is the Kurt Geiger woman?

On the street and red carpet alike, British royalty and celebrities including Kate Bosworth, Jennifer Lawrence, Selena Gomez and Gwen Stefani covet Kurt Geiger and I get just as excited when I see a cool girl in Manhattan, Milan or Hong Kong wearing our London designs. They all share a desire for quality and style classics with a real edge.

Shoes have cult status, transform your shape and you don't have to have a model's proportions to fit into them.

Do you have a shoe icon - someone who always styles them well?

A shoe icon lets their shoes add that extra edge. I loved the way Suki Waterhouse wore wedge boots underneath her gown for the Met Gala.

I own over 500 pairs of shoes which is either a terrible or fabulous amount - depending on your perspective!

What is your ultimate style of shoe?

My staple shoe has to be a stiletto, particularly my signature metal pin-heel stiletto. They’ve become my staple, in colours particularly, but especially in scarlet, as I find whatever my outfit and whatever the colour they somehow ALWAYS work. Think of them like a bright lipstick!

Who would make a great brand ambassador for Kurt Geiger?

I love the fiery-haired English rose Karen Elson as she asserts her style off-duty and on the red carpet with the perfect amount of rock ‘n’ roll edge.

How many pairs of shoes do you own personally?

I can’t believe I’m telling you this, but I’m afraid I own over 500 pairs of shoes which is either a terrible or fabulous amount - depending on your perspective! But I love shoes and I am an avid collector so I now have my very own shoe chandelier to catalogue them.

What beauty products would you never leave home without?

Perfume, lip balm and an eyelash curler.
