Winter Skincare Switches

Twinkling Christmas lights, cashmere sweaters, roaring log fires…winter does have its charms but you may have already noticed that your skin is not coping quite so well with the dropping temperatures. Dryness, flaking and irritation come hand-in-hand with icy conditions, but there are subtle skincare changes that can help calm your distressed complexion. We’ve compiled a list of easy product switches that will keep you hydrated and happy until spring.

Cleanser
Do you use a foaming cleanser? While fantastic for deep cleansing, these wash-off formulas may prove too harsh for dry, chapped, winter skin. Avoid that dry, tight post-cleanse feeling by switching to a soothing non-rinse formula like Dolce & Gabbana Essential Cleansing Milk. Alternatively, an oil-rich balm like Eve Lom Cleanser will remove all impurities without stripping skin – simply buff off with the damp muslin cloth included for a fresh but hydrated complexion.

Toner
If your usual toner is beginning to sting on application, it’s time to swap it for something a little milder. Look out for alcohol-free formulas with softening properties. La Prairie’s Cellular Refining Lotion refreshes, yet also calms irritated skin. Sisley Floral Toning Lotion is another excellent option for dry and sensitive skin types.

Day Cream
During summer, lightweight, oil-free lotions provide an excellent make-up base, but these may not be nourishing enough come winter. If you’ve noticed your foundation is creasing or flaking in patches, you need to up your daily hydration. You will probably be able to upgrade within your current brand of choice, switching a product like Clarins Super Restorative Day for its richer Super Restorative For Very Dry Skin Types , or Crème de La Mer The Moisturising Lotion for The Moisturizing Cream . Just remember to stick to day-specific formulas that won’t roll or look greasy under make-up.

Night Cream
For an extra night-time boost, try adding in a hydrating serum. Kiehl's' Hydro-Plumping Re-Texturizing Serum Concentrate and Dr Sebagh Rose de Vie Serum are both excellent for thirsty skin. It’s also worth considering face oil for an intense boost of nourishment; Decléor offers an impressive range formulated with pure natural oils that are instantly softening.
