The Strobing Guide
Step away from the bronzer, this party season our go-to look is all about strobing. Don’t panic though, unlike the contouring craze, strobing is a super-easy technique with super-beautiful results. Essentially, it’s highlighting with an extra flourish; it leaves skin bathed in captivating, dewy light, perfect for gleaming party looks. Sasha Ghodstinat, National Make-Up Artist for Laura Mercier, describes strobing as bringing “a nice dewy glow to the skin without looking like you’re wearing make-up,” making it ideal for those on the eternal quest for a natural, fresh-faced look.
So how do you get the glow? Prep skin with a richly-hydrating moisturiser, such as Origins Three-Part Harmony, for a smooth starting point and follow with SUQQU Lighting Liquid. This clever primer is packed full of white, red and blue fine pearl extracts to help enhance the complexion and capture light in all the right places. Finish your base with a watery, sheer foundation; Giorgio Armani Beauty Luminous Silk Foundation is perfect.
The key is to then apply highlights to the areas of your face that light naturally hits: cheekbones, nose, centre of the forehead, chin and your Cupid’s bow. When choosing your perfect highlighter stick to golden or pearlescent tones as silvers can seem unnatural. For a dramatic boost of light opt for a long-lasting powder highlighter; we love Laura Mercier Chameleon Collection Shimmer Bloc or our handy go-to Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick. For a more subtle, soft-focus glow, use a creamier texture, such as in Charlotte Tilbury’s Norman Parkinson Dreamy Glow Highlighter. As well as leaving the skin with a gorgeous peachy sheen, the beautiful vintage compact is perfect for slipping in your clutch for covert touch-ups throughout the evening.
And of course we wouldn’t be caught without the all-time favourite Touche Éclat framing the upper lip for a perfect Cupid’s bow. Et voila! A beautiful look guaranteed to light up any party.
