Nail The Trends For SS14
On the hunt for that perfect polish? From shade to shape, nail guru Deborah Lippmann reveals her top tips for SS14.
"This season is more about creams and a return to femininity - pastels, less nail art and a little more ladylike. While some may opt for darker shades, they will be a more understated look from the wacky finishes that we've been seeing over the past few years," she explains.
When it comes to shape, Deborah advises: “In regards to the style and shape of nails - the length of the nail itself is coming down. Stiletto nails – long, coming to a more severe tip, were very big this year, but we'll see a shift. I think nails will stay more feminine with the almond shape, but just above the end of the fingertips. Square shaped nails are still out for the time being.”
And for your ideal polish partner, Deborah recommends matching shades to skintones:
Fair Skin: "Fair complexions work well with cool tones including light pinks, light blues and lavender. Try La Vie En Rose, Blue Orchid."
Medium Skin: "Medium skintones are really complimented by soft yellows, lavenders and peaches. Try Tip Toe Through The Tulips, Build Me Up Buttercup."
Olive Skin: "A few of my favourites for this complexion category include warm tones such as softer greens, mints and my personal pick Flowers in Her Hair."
Dark Skin: "Are the real winners because they can get away with any pastel shades. Similar to what you have seen me create for Lupita Nyong’o recently – we’ve done pastels, golds, nudes, greens, and everything in between."
