Skin Perfecting Make-Up

‘No Make-Up’ Make-Up

Spring/Summer 2015 continued the ‘less is more’ mantra of past seasons, with many designers, including Christopher Kane, Isabel Marant and JW Anderson, choosing to send their models down the runway bare-faced, without a hint of make-up - or so it seemed. Fashion month is notoriously stressful, with long days and late nights making eight hours of sleep near impossible; to combat this, models’ glowing, healthy complexions are given a boost by the make-up artist’s brush.

While the roots of achieving the ‘no make-up’ make-up look lie firmly in the hands of your skincare regime, there are many products that can help. Discreet and invisible by nature, their purpose is not to change, but rather enhance your skin’s beauty and features. Introducing the skin perfectors:

The key to any no-make-up look is hydration. Moisture-saturated skin instantly looks healthier, so start your regime with a rich, quickly-absorbed cream like Laura Mericer’s Infusion de Rose Nourishing Crème.

Minimise imperfections with the new generation of blurring products. Though invisible to the naked eye, when smoothed over a bare complexion, they will diminish the appearance of wrinkles, discolouration and pores with light-reflecting particles. Try Kiehl’s Micro Blur Perfector, or Yves Saint Laurent Eclat Blur Primer.

Give cheekbones definition without overloading with colour. Look out for peach-based shades which mimic skin’s flush, and opt for cream textures where possible. By Terry’s Cellularose Blush Glace in Ice Dream looks natural when applied sparingly with fingers and blended up towards the temples.

Fake that model glow with a generous swirl of highlighter. Concentrate on the upper cheekbones before sweeping lightly across the forehead, nose and cheeks – Guerlain Meteorites Pearls is ideal for the task.

While intense lip colour is a big no-no for this look, a hint of pink is a pretty finishing touch. We love Clarins’ new Instant Light Lip Balm Perfectors which combine nourishing wild mango butter with a barely-there sugary sheen.
