5 Minutes With Gal Gadot
From being crowned Miss Israel in 2004 to serving two years of military service in the Israeli army, these are but two of the accomplishments Gal Gadot could cite before she embarked on a career in acting.
Playing the lead role in 2017’s Wonder Woman, Israeli-born Gal has also starred in numerous box-office hits, including Furious 7 and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and now she is the face of Gucci Bamboo’s new eau de toilette, a refreshing take on the unique, sensual fragrance from the Italian power house.
We talk to Gal about her beauty routine, how she prepped for her starring role as Wonder Woman and her love of paddleboarding...
How does Gucci Bamboo smell to you?
I think it’s very fresh and light, but then also sexy. It has a note of sweetness to it; I really like the ylang-ylang.
Did you have a favourite scent growing up?
Tell us about your daily beauty routine...
I make sure that my skin is always clean when I’m not working and wearing make-up. I make sure to hydrate it by wearing face creams and masks.
How would you describe your style?
In my day-to-day life, I’m very practical and comfortable - less is more. I love jeans and T-shirts; I’ll bump myself up with nice bags or nice shoes, but it’s usually very casual.
Fashion model, actress…what else would you like to add to your resumé?
Right now I’m focusing on what I have and I’m grateful for it. I’m taking it one step at a time and I’ve learned from my experience that life can be very surprising and you never know where you’re going to end up. But I’d definitely like to continue working as an actress on great scripts with interesting characters.
With such a busy schedule, how do you unwind in your free time?
Be with my family.
You look super-glamorous in the Gucci Bamboo campaign video; do you have any secrets for feeling special on the red carpet?
I enjoy massages and body treatments; I work out a lot and my role in Wonder Woman is really physical so I need to maintain my body.
Did you do anything specific to prepare for the role of Wonder Woman?
Yes, nine months prior to the shooting I started doing all different kinds of training. I do a lot of gym work and weights; I also do a lot of horse riding, sword fighting and hand-to-hand combat training.
Do you have any favourite ways of working out when you don’t have to work out?
When I don’t have to work out, I like to paddleboard. I really love the ocean, I really love the sea, and there’s something almost meditative about doing the paddleboard. It’s also very good for your body - good core work and it’s great work for the arms too.
What are you most looking forward to in 2016?
I’m in a very exciting time in my life right now. I’m shooting the stand-alone movie, Wonder Woman; it’s super-exciting and I’m very happy about it - the experience so far is just fantastic. I work with Patty Jenkins, my fantastic, genius director whom I love, and it’s such a great cast to work with – so that’s my focus.
