Elie Saab's red carpet gowns took on a tailored twist for Autumn/Winter...
Inspired by artist Mark Rothko, Elie Saab's collection had a linear focus this season. Starting from a palette of rich burgundy, suiting and dresses in chiffon, crepe and velvet cut a geometric silhouette that was new to the fashion house - precisely tailored rather than ethereal. From there, ribbed mini dresses, and off-the-shoulder gowns came in ombre pastels while bold pink florals were splashed on a black backdrop. Eveningwear being the designer's strong suit, carpet-sweeping gowns worthy of Oscars themselves paraded down the catwalk in emerald green, blush and gunmetal grey, some with cut-out backs, others with floral appliques and asymmetric necklines, others still with sheer pleated skirts. For the perfect finishing touch, fur jackets dip-dyed in the exact shade of your dress.
