Alexander McQueen AW15
Held beneath the vaulted ceiling of the Concierge in Paris, the Alexander McQueen AW15 show was a haunting presentation that was delicate yet dramatic.
Inspired by David Sims’ photographs of the life cycle of the rose, Creative Director Sarah Burton reflected the “fragility and beauty” of nature through colour, structure and intricate detailing. Outerwear featured in the form of belted trench coats given a luxe edge with contrasting collars in plush fur and textured jacquard motifs. Dresses, meanwhile, were kept ultra-feminine with frilled edges, high necklines and sultry sheer panelling. A show highlight, a series of seductive bustier cocktails dresses appeared in contrasting shades of blush pink and lusty red with elegant pleated skirts. LBDs were entwined with leather-lace Victorian collars across the décolletage that added a gothic edge to bonded leather rose cloqué tailoring. Layers were also heavily featured, making an appearance on everything from a fishtail gown with graduated sheets of feather-light organza to a tiered tulle coat with a ruffled neck and front. Whether bold rose prints on billowing sheer gowns or skirts that morphed into voluminous rosettes, the rousing rose was evident throughout.
