There was serious star power on the Givenchy front row in the form of Jessica Chastain, Katy Perry, Amanda Seyfried and designer Riccardo Tisci's BFFs, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West (sans little North West this time), but even so, the attention remained firmly on the clothes, which were arresting, to say the least. Models decked out in multiple jewel facial piercings (faux) and sculpted curls plastered onto their foreheads took to the catwalk in prim velvet frocks in black and navy featuring cut-away lace panels and the hint of Catholic crosses on the breastbone. Sculpted jackets were cinched tightly at the waist but bustled out over stovepipe trousers or knee-length skirts (and sometimes both). In jacquard, lace or beaded velvet they were opulent and romantic in that Gothic way that Tisci does so well. The inky palette was broken up by rich shades of scarlet and a single ivory chiffon dress topped by a tonal fur. The butterfly patterns printed on billowy midi dresses from AW14 evolved into peacock-stamped numbers, complete with ruched sleeves, gathered sides and Victorian collars. For evening, there is no getting away from the sparkly dress next season. Here they consisted of bead-embroidered, carpet-sweeping columns in scarlet and black.
Who we saw: Kim Kardashian and Jessica Chastain.
What they wore: Her new platinum bob and a black lace-up dress for Kim and black layers for Jessica.
In a nutshell: Dark romance at its best.
