Christopher Kane AW16
The lowdown: "We wanted to take unlikely things and make them beautiful, looking to an outsider who has her own rules and her own style - she does what she wants and defines her own beauty," revealed Christopher Kane of his girl this season. The same thing could be said of the designer, who elevated the ordinary to the extraordinary with this collection, from plastic rain bonnets designed in collaboration with milliner Stephen Jones to ribbed cardboard boxes that inspired leather shells and matching skirts in shades of camel.
Luxe materials were given a contemporary twist - Chantilly lace was bonded with felt and plush mink coats and chubbies came with high-vis stitching and fluoro lining (we all know Kane loves a neon). Meanwhile, traditional English tea dresses were slashed, beribboned and printed with photographic florals and wool coats were bedecked with fluffy marabou feathers for the perfect fusion of classic and whimsical.
