Burberry Prorsum SS15
The Burberry formula of runway show + musical gig was back in play for Spring/Summer as Christopher Bailey delivered his colour-infused womenswear collection to the melodic strains of singer, James Bay. The collection, named ‘The Birds and The Bees’, included bright book cover designs, oversized butterfly prints and hand-drawn honey bees, which were referenced on the hand-painted runway and illustrated on the transparent roof above the 1500 guests.
With A-listers including Kate Moss, Olivia Palermo and Cara Delevingne (seated on the front row this time) in attendance and models Sam Rollinson, Jourdan Dunn and Suki Waterhouse on the runway, all the ingredients were there for a suitably glossy show. And glossy it was, thanks to the high-shine paillettes that adorned pencil skirts, and PVC accents on shrunken jackets and bustier tops. The silhouette this season was considerably more sculpted than the previous 'Bloomsbury Girls' collection, with wasp-waisted dark denim jackets with shearling collars paired with narrow skirts in yellow or pink opening the show. The mix between high and low fabrics was effortless and natural and is sure to inspire many a jeans-and-chiffon pairing this season. Buttery-suede or nubbly sheepskin jackets in rich purple and green soon followed, cinched at the waist with thick knots of tulle and teamed with micro-pleated frocks. For evening, nothing could be more desirable than a tiered tulle dress in ombré shades. Bailey's signature finale featured a parade of brightly printed trench coats - handy no matter the season.
