Christopher Kane SS15
Christopher Kane has a track record of returning to previous work and ideas; the rope detailing that was the overarching theme for SS15 was first explored in his student days. The show at London’s Tate Modern was in fact an ode to the late Louise Wilson OBE, his MA professor at Central Saint Martins. Embroidered as knots on dresses, rope also threaded its way through hemlines and cuffs and acted as neat drawstring closures on jackets. From here, the collection took a more sophisticated turn. A series of silk dresses paraded down the runway, some boasting demure cut-outs while others were spliced with leather and exposed boning. “Controlled explosion dresses,” as Kane called them, came with bursts of tulle shot out from beneath collars and hems. The colour palette of black, blue and predominantly burgundy was stemmed from his school uniform - another reference to his past. While Kane may be looking back, this is a collection that is sure to be a hit when it lands in-store.
