Valentino Spring Summer 2015 show Paris Fashion Week

Valentino SS15

"Yet another stunning show from this talented duo. Between the beautiful patchwork tiered pieces, island-appropriate eyelets and pastel-coloured flowy evening gowns with sea motifs, it was a sophisticated extravaganza. For eveningwear, there is no reason to go to any other brand."

Helen David, Harrods Fashion Director of Womenswear

For SS15, Valentino design duo Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli were inspired by the 18th Century tradition of the Grand Tour, whereby well-off youths embarked on an educational trip of Italy to explore art and philosophy. The result was a veritable Roman odyssey, with Baroque florals, classical ruins and marine motifs like corals, starfish and shells delicately printed on light-as-air chiffon dresses. Scarf prints came in bold primaries stamped on simple tunics or silky jumpsuits while Broderie Anglaise apron dresses in white or navy were as pure "as a bridal trusseau", the show notes revealed. The designers' signature gowns, high-necked, nipped-in and long-sleeved, were updated into tiered silk confections of ombre pastels. Some came with whisps of looped chiffon and glistening jewel appliqués on sleeves, practically turning them into couture pieces. Meanwhile, draped goddess gowns in linden green and cinnamon offered a chic option for evening. Accessories comprised sleek shoulder bags with metal grommets and must-have knee-high gladiator sandals featuring the maison's gryphon.
