3.1 Phillip Lim SS16
The lowdown: Another day, another New York designer celebrating an anniversary - the city has been awash with them his season. For his tenth year in the business, Phillip Lim went all out by hiring a huge show space, collaborating with artist Maya Lin on an installation that comprised of mounds of dug-up dirt (Lim's mantra this season was 'Stop and smell the flowers') and a killer front row that included Alexa Chung, Zosia Mamet and Kiernan Shipka. For his line-up, the designer delivered a perfect mix of utility (army green parkas, mesh crop tops) and girlie (organza skirts, paper bag waists and ruffles), a look he has stayed true to but evolved throughout the years. Grown-up fabrics like satin and velvet looked anything but mumsy when crafted into super-wide-leg trousers and anoraks, and the shirt dress adopted a sculptural twist when knotted at the front and left billowing open over satin hot pants. Happy anniversary, Lim, happy shopping for us!
Who we saw: Alexa Chung
