The lowdown: For his last season at the French fashion house Alexander Wang made a statement. Where Balenciaga is traditionally all about structure and dark shades, Wang went free-flowing and light. Kicking off with a line-up of boudoir-worthy satin slip dresses, each piece came lingerie-style with lace straps and bustier cups; he moved into more ‘street’ get-ups of wide T-shirts, track pants and bum bags – but still without ever losing their romantic, feminine ruffles and ribbons. Despite Wang’s new languid silhouette, the maison is known for its construction, which came shining through on sheer apron dresses with peel-away collars and matelassé kimono jackets and pop-overs. And fabrics, from silks to lace, linen and cotton, were the finest we have seen all season, all a sign that even though Wang may have rebelled for his final show, he still upheld the key Balenciaga pillars. Who will take over from Wang is still to be announced, but they will have a clean (all white, in fact) slate from which to start.
Who we saw: Suki Waterhouse on the runway
What they wore: A sheer white apron dress
