Christopher Kane SS16
The lowdown: “Crash and repair; that’s what we kept saying to each other,” wrote Christopher Kane in the show notes for his Spring/Summer 2016 collection, alluding to the difficulties he and his sister - and creative partner – Tammy have endured this year; namely, losing their mother just days before their last show in February. The ‘crash’ element of the collection displayed itself in spray-paint prints, jagged cut-outs and chaotic – yet utterly desirable – patchworking of acid lace, Perspex, embroidered panels and fringing. The ‘repair’, meanwhile, seemed to be in the very bringing together of old and new, such as the placing of the signature safety buckle now across trainers and a novel use of cable ties signalling the start of a new focus in accessories, for which the front row will await with baited breath.
Who we saw: Dame Zaha Hadid
What they wore: Head-to-toe black and carrying a Mark Cross handbag
