The lowdown: Carrying on with his perennial jet-set theme, Dennis Basso took us 'South of the Border' this season with his sultry collection. "I was thinking about Rio, Havana, Buenos Aires and Mexico City when I created this collection, dedicated to confident women who dress to look and feel good." The result was a riot of hot colours and bold prints played out on tiered gowns, wrap tops, short shorts and handkerchief skirts. For the dressiest of occasions, trailing chiffon gowns are just the ticket - exquisitely embroidered by hand (in New York, the designer made a point of telling us) they were the stuff of grown-up fairy tales. Furs, ever present in Basso's line-ups and even in Spring/Summer, appeared shorn and laser cut as coats or textured by combining sable and fox with crocodile as gilets and cropped jackets. One would dream of owning such a piece but if there was the luxury of choosing three from the line-up? "Must-haves this season are the hand cut-out coats, a tiered gown and one of the shorter, colourful cocktail dresses."
"The standout show of NYFW, Basso continued his evolution to ensure that all our socialites are perfectly clad for whatever their destination, head to toe. Strong colour was a new departure with purples and rainbow-coloured, flowing gowns and furs paired with broadtail lace coats. As usual, most looks were paired with appropriately fabulous furry outerwear, lightened up for summer with lace and organza," said Helen David, Harrods Fashion Director of Womenswear, Women's Shoes, Accessories, Fine Jewellery, and Childrenswear, of the show.
