The lowdown: If anyone can make black and white pairings look different every time it's Alber Elbaz, himself a fan of a uniform. For the Lanvin SS16 show the designer put out no less than 70 exits, many of which were monochrome. Opening with crisp white shirts with either high-waisted tuxedo trousers (some overlaid with skirt-like panels) or flared skirts with frayed edges - another Elbaz signature - the designer had elegance in the bag from the get-go. He then veered into scarlet or black ruffled dresses and frayed tweed tunic-and-skirt combos worn with slouchy boots and plenty of attitude - this is as 'street style' as it gets chez Lanvin. Finally, a parade of Grecian-style dresses, some with asymmetric hemlines, others sweeping to the floor, and jewel-toned satin cocktail numbers, rounded off the collection.
