"Red was the overriding color in Copping's NY show this season, and flowers were abundant. Carefully-appliquéd organza flowers onto faithful silk faille gowns produced whimsical, romantic looks."

The lowdown: A new show space heralded a fresh start for Peter Copping at Oscar de la Renta, now in his second season, but that didn't mean a departure from the house's aesthetic. In fact, Copping paid homage to the late designer by looking to Spanish and Latin American cultures for influences and incorporated de la Renta's favourite flower, the carnation, into his looks (and as the ultimate classy touch, a red carnation for each guest on their seat). The result was a line-up that was both sultry and elegant, with its ruffled jacquard skirt suits in carnation red, black Chantilly lace cocktail dresses, tiered maxi skirts and suede boleros. Contemporary accents, such as a starched denim blazer with ribbon closure and espadrilles worn with some of the looks, brought the nostalgic aesthetic up to date. Gowns appeared in chiffon with floral appliqués, in curve-hugging flamenco silhouettes or strapless boasting lace necklines. A special mention goes to the beauty look, which comprised matte red lips, immaculate skin and hair simply tied back in a ribbon.

"Red was the overriding color in Copping's NY show this season, and flowers were abundant. Carefully-appliquéd organza flowers onto faithful silk faille gowns produced whimsical, romantic looks. Lightened-up Copping style, gowns were often tied at the back with black grosgrain ribbons; perhaps more flirty than what Oscar would have showcased in the past, but with a loyal, rich, colour palette and lots of stunning silk faille suiting and gowns with injections of contrasting black lace," said Helen David, Harrods Fashion Director of Womenswear, Women's Shoes, Accessories, Fine Jewellery, and Childrenswear, of the show.
