Anya Hindmarch SS17
If London had felt a little more intimate and pared-back this season, Anya Hindmarch was anything but. True to form, the set itself was integral to the collection, entitled ‘Circulus’ – a clue to the geometric theme underpinning the aesthetic. An all-white amphitheatre, ceremoniously revealed by the removal of a large, central disc, was almost clinical in its delivery of the emerging candy colour-clad models stepping out in “summer neoprene” with an emphasis on outerwear, as well as swimsuits, cold-shoulder, ruffle tops and dresses – new additions to the Hindmarch repertoire. Each garment was individually adorned with interwoven colourful leather pieces – almost molecular in their form and strangely satisfying in their combinations – punctuating each look with artful precision.
And of course, there were the bags. Making its debut, The Stack – a boxy new member of the Hindmarch clan, its multiple zipped compartments with degrade effect from reds through to yellow or greens through to blue, each finished with a handle each end or in a more upright, triple-zip adaption, charming us with its utterly versatile styling possibilities. There was also a dazzling array of top-handle bags all carried, for the most part, with a straight arm – a nod to this season’s new bag-stance – even shoulder bags were extended downwards to graze the calf, too.
But it wasn’t all so serious. Retaining the previous seasons’ overtly playful elements, Hindmarch looked to footwear for the fun, adding in furry emoticon-emblazoned slider-slippers to her remit, along with a cuddly adaption of the classic ‘fried-egg’ sweet, while there were personalisation options aplenty with bag charms, multi-way straps and adornments galore.
