Marc Jacobs SS17

Season upon season, it’s rare for Marc Jacobs to not get the fashion crowd talking, the Spring/Summer 2017 show being no exception. The designer unveiled, what can only be described as, a fashion riot: rainbow shades, textures galore, stacked-to-the-max platform shoes and piled-high dreadlocks all came together, rave-like, to the soundtrack of ‘90s dance tune Born Slippy by Underworld.

While oversized sweaters were worn loosely over über-short minis, dresses (also of the mini variety) came super-ruffled and super-embellished. If there’s one thing Marc Jacobs knows how to do to a T, it’s to use colour as if there are no limits and no rules: pinks, reds and purples clashed wonderfully on reams of satin, lace, sequins and leather, while palettes comprising azure, teal, silver and marine blended to perfection. One colour highlight was certainly the pea green and orange rugby sweater worn over khaki hot pants and with knee-high, lace-up platform boots that made up the colours of a sunset. A bold show, to say the least, but it’s clear that Jacobs’ no-holds-barred approach to fashion shows no sign of waning.
