Evening Gown Edit: Emmy Awards 2014

If the star-studded red carpet at the Emmy Awards 2014 is anything to go by, AW14’s party season is set to go stellar. Our favourite TV actresses earned their fashion kudos, showcasing bold colours, dramatic silhouettes and romantic embellishment, offering evening gown inspiration for every possible dress code.

The timeless allure of a black dress did not go unnoticed: model Behati Prinsloo opted for a romantic Prada gown with sheer detailing, while Mad Men star Jessica Pare’s strapless ankle-length dress was a refreshingly streamlined choice imbued with vintage glamour. Meanwhile, Lizzy Caplan, star of The Masters of Sex, offered 360⁰ appeal in Donna Karan Atelier, with a sporty halter neckline, cut-out back and sweeping train.

In total contrast, white gowns also took a star turn, perfectly capturing AW14’s Enchanted Evening trend. House of Cards’ Kate Mara and Downton Abbey’s Joanne Froggatt both opted for J. Mendel dresses with pretty embellished detailing and floor-skimming hems, while model Camilla Alves pulled out all the stops, looking statuesque in a laser cut gown by Zuhair Murad

Proving a little sparkle goes a long way, Orange is the New Black’s Taylor Schilling wore a cream dress by Zuhair Murad, with vintage-inspired beading and an elegant halterneck, while Julia Roberts, nominated for The Normal Heart, surprised fashion critics with a flirty cocktail dress by Elie Saab Couture. Combining sparkle and colour to dazzling effect, we loved Scandal’s Kerry Washington’s playful take on red carpet glamour in this juicy Prada gown with delicate jewel detailing.

When an occasion calls for something particularly special, a dramatic silhouette promises instant wow-factor: Mad Men’s January Jones nailed high-octane drama with a structural dress from Prabal Gurung and Lizzy Caplan’s co-star, Keke Palmer, pulled out all the stops with a cobalt fishtail gown by Rubin Singer, while Girls’ Allison Williams achieved fairytale perfection in Giambattista Valli Couture.
