New York Fashion Week AW14: The Round-Up

Kicking off the Autumn/Winter 2014 season, New York set the style bar high with stunning showcases from key designers and up-and-coming fashion talent. We round-up the best in shows.

Prints were carried into AW14 with renewed energy, as Diane von Furstenberg added a smattering of fur for evening glamour, while stalwart of NYC fashion Donna Karan added edge to DKNY’s AW14 line by way of quilted parkas trimmed with fur and leather separates.

Still going strong, the bandage dress got its seasonal update at Herve Leger, coming styled in geometric shapes overlaid with latticed corsetry for AW14, while at Victoria Beckham, the designer presented signature clean, feminine lines and sophisticated tailoring to a packed-out show - including of course David and Harper Beckham sitting front row.

Meanwhile, prepping for his debut at Balenciaga in Paris, Alexander Wang presented the collection for his namesake label, with shorn fur coats, multi-pocketed crombies and laser-cut parkas proving a welcome sight in chilly NYC. And, continuing the theme of debuts, Katie Hillier and Luella Bartley unveiled their much-anticipated first collection for Marc by Marc Jacobs. The ultimate mix of tough-meets-sweet, it featured oversized bow-festooned tops, multi-pleated tulle skirts with BMX boots.

A fresh take on red carpet dressing came courtesy of Jenny Packham, with taffeta ball skirts and feathered pencil skirts providing a laid-back edge to the signature gowns bejewelled with Swarovski crystals.

Finally, Michael Kors, delivered a relaxed collection teaming peasant blouses with oversized cable knits, A-line denim skirts and loosely-fastened, low-slung, waist belts. Blake Lively, Freida Pinto and Rose Byrne sat front row as fringing, fur and printed chiffon took to the catwalk.
