The Hot Ticket: Horst – Photographer of Style
A man with over 90 Vogue covers to his name, who counted the likes of Coco Chanel, Marlene Dietrich and Salvador Dalí as friends, and who is hailed as one of fashion’s greatest photographers, Horst P. Horst is celebrated in the Victoria & Albert Museum’s definitive retrospective, Horst: Photographer of Style.
Bringing together photographs, sketches, film footage, letters and haute couture garments, the exhibition looks back at the master photographer’s 60-year career, highlighting his many and varied influences and unveiling the legacy of his work in the worlds of art, design, theatre and high society, as well, of course, as fashion.
The pièce de résistance? A long cabinet filled with vintage Vogue magazines and surrounded by Horst’s most iconic covers blown up to dazzling proportions; the perfect pick-me-up for fatigued London Fashion Week goers.
Horst: Photographer of Style runs until Sunday 4th January 2015 at the Victoria & Albert Museum, London.
