Why Not To Revert To Black This Season

If black is your all-year-round go-to colour, then this is the season to think again. Yes, it may be considered slimming, smart and versatile, but the likes of Gucci and Versace have shown how there is, in fact, a whole winter rainbow to choose from. Here, Style Insider brings you four easy ways in which to add a much-needed splash of colour to your winter wardrobe.

The Dress
Swap your little black dress for something a little hotter, Red Hot to be precise. Simmering on the Versace and Oscar de la Renta catwalks, a red dress will prove to be just as much as an investment piece as your trusty LBD. Opt for an elegant cut and stick to black accessories to keep from looking too brash. The perfect choice for the upcoming party season.

The Coat
Pink coats are still proving to be a hit this season. Spotted on the AW14 catwalks of Burberry Prorsum and Christopher Kane, candy-hued cover-ups were also on the backs of myriad editors during Fashion Month. Whether pastel or popping, a pink coat will ensure you don’t fade into the background on gloomy winter days.

The Boots
Cast aside your worn-soled black boots this season. Instead choose styles in Military Green to subtly steer your winter looks in a new direction. While softening tailoring at 3.1 Phillip Lim, Gucci sent pairs in exotic snakeskin down its AW14 catwalk. We particularly love Giuseppe Zanotti’s Suede Sock Boot for its versatility.

The Eyeliner
We know that you are now so good at putting on black eyeliner that you can do it anywhere, even on the tube. That’s why, this season it will be super-easy to transition to a new colour - blue. Bright blue flicks were seen at Kenzo and Temperley London while sparkly blue liquid latex coated lids at Dior. Let this colour reimagine your make-up routine.
