Patricia Otegwu's Party Style Guide

UK blogger Patricia Otegwu of Patricia Bright reveals her party style and beauty guide...

On Party Style…
“My party style is quite casual, like my everyday style but with a touch of glamour. That could be some sparkle or sequins, or something more simple like a blazer with jeans and heels. There’s something about embellishment that just feels glamorous. If you feel confident then definitely go for something with sequins.”

On Her Perfect Silhouette…
“I do find a figure-hugging dress – especially in black - to be super flattering with the right underwear. With strappy sandals and red lips you never feel like you’ve done too much, but you never feel like you haven’t made an effort either.”

On London Party Season…
“The London party season is really fun. It’s really chilly but everyone still comes out because they want to have a good time. Everyone tends to work with their own personal style - be it casual or a bit more out there.”

On Her Perfect Party...
“My perfect party would probably be a cheesy party. If I have my friends, some good music, some drinks, I’ll have a good time. It’s good to be able to let my hair down.”

On Her Pre-Party Prep…
“For me it’s about being really comfortable; be it with a glass of wine and the girls over listening to music. Then I take a really long time doing my make-up. When I’ve got my make-up done, I feel really good. I really like to get that beauty regime nailed. As a failsafe, I wear red lippy when I’m not feeling that glamorous.”

On Party Shoes…
“My perfect party shoes are definitely a heel. A strappy sandal always looks good - especially with jeans which I wear out a lot. But whatever your outfit, a strappy sandal always makes you look super feminine and sexy.”

On Her Party Beauty Kit…
“In my clutch bag kit would always be a red lippy. I also carry around my powder with me for touch-ups. I do a make-up technique called ‘baking’ where you leave your powder on to set much deeper, for about 15 minutes. It gives you a really matte finish. During party season skin can get quite oily but when you bake your make-up you can avoid that happening. I’d also carry some perfume with me.”

On Fragrance…
“I love the Tom Ford perfumes, Black Orchid is absolutely beautiful and it’s got a warmth and elegance to it. Very feminine. I love warm, oriental scents.”

On Her Everyday Style…
“My everyday style is very casual. I’m really inspired by street style. Sometimes if I see something I like on Social Media, I might try to recreate it to make it work for myself. I always love a jacket. I think in London jackets are what make an outfit - long, short, textured and layered – they can all make an amazing look.”

On Her Style Tips…
“When it comes to your styling, I always say “do you”. Wear what you feel most comfortable in, wear what flatters you. Be willing and ready to make style mistakes. You need to do that to work out what works for you and what doesn’t. And who knows, one person’s style mistakes can often be a really good trend in other peoples eyes.”

On Her Style Rules…
“My style mantra is probably not combining more than three colours at a time. I try to stick to a more neutral palette and then I use make-up to add pops of trendier colours. In my day shoot I’m wearing a lipstick called Flamingo which is a really bright pink by TOM FORD, but then I can wear it with cooler hues that don’t look too garish.”

On Her Fashion Go-To…
“My ultimate must-have - and it has been for the past few seasons - would be my over-the-knee Stuart Weitzman boots. I can bring them out every autumn and winter. I feel so glamorous even when it’s cold and horrible out. There’s something about a over-the-knee suede heeled boot that’s so glamorous.”

On Beauty…
“My signature look with make-up is keeping a good base, so the foundation, the highlighting, the contouring, the baking and the mattifying. I play with colour using lipsticks. I can wear anything from dark browns to purples, pinks to nudes - I love to change up my lip shades. I like to keep eyes very neutral, but gold and bronze look great on everyone. And a winged eye is a must.”

“I like to do everything when it comes to make-up. Once you have the perfect base you can put anything on it, like a painting.”

On Hairstyling…
“My favourite hairstyle is messy waves. I do like to change it up - short hair, hair extensions - but I like to keep it looking natural as I do so much with my make-up.”
