Zanita Whittington's Style Guide

Whether being snapped for the latest street style edits or striking a pose for her stunning site Zanita.com, both behind and in front of the camera Australian style maven Zanita Whittington knows her fashion inside and out.

We chatted with her on set at Destination Party to get a snapshot of her life in style…

On Party Style…
“I love colour and prints. My go-to party look would be an A-line skirt and a top with a floral print. I also love cut-out detaling.”

On Australian Party Season…
“We do a lot of patio style parties in Australia – kind of indoor/outdoor. People in Australia are very relaxed about their style.”

On Her Perfect Party…
“It would be something a little more intimate - around 15 to 20 people. I love it when you can go round the room and talk to everyone. I love good quality wine and food. The music is really important; there are a lot of good artists coming out of Sweden. I’m always musically influenced by my surroundings. Music is the sanity of what I do. I always have music playing.”

On Spending Time In Sweden…
“I’ve been influenced heavily by Swedish style in that I’ve become a bit more minimalist, seeking out those solid basics.”

On Beauty…
“I’m not really one for evening style make-up, typically. I don’t think I suit a really ‘done’ look. I feel like a lot of make-up hides the better parts of my face. I love a smoky eye if done masterfully. Typically I would go with a bold lip like a red, but lately I’ve been loving all the warm nude shades coming out. TOM FORD lipsticks are the best, they have amazing staying power. Who knew there were so many shades of nude - but there’s such a difference in each shade.”

On Shoes…
“I own unspeakable amounts of heels. But in the last two years I’ve become more practical and more into flats. There are so many amazing 70s style wedges out at the moment but they make me so tall, so flats are perfect for me. It’s almost cooler to wear flats now. It’s cooler to not try too hard.”

On Her Essentials For Fashion Month…
“A good clean white sneaker. Especially right now - it’s the most versatile thing. I can wear it with a cocktail dress, a maxi dress, jeans, whatever. I find it challenging to find hero pieces. It’s challenging when you’re travelling, to pack variations for lots of outfits.

On Packing For Fashion Month…
“It’s really challenging when it’s a series of different climates. I’ll try to stick with a theme in terms of a style - e.g. 70s so I can mix and match, or I will go with a colour system. I don’t work out things day by day, I just decide what I like as and when.

On Eras Of Fashion…
“I love the 80s and 90s eras - that’s when I started to love fashion. The supermodel heyday was when I started reading magazines. Sometimes I feel like I look like I’m from that time!”

On Her Background…
“I was a model for nearly 10 years. I still model but I’m the boss now. It’s more about having a conversation about what we are wearing."

On Style Rules…
“I thrive on change and evolution and trying something new. I can dress colourful, tomboy, retro, feminine. I’m a bit of a chameleon.”

On Her Favourite Pieces…
“My favourites are always vintage pieces. I have a vintage denim jacket that I adore. For handbags, I love the Chloé Drew it’s just so practical; it fits all the right things in it and looks so chic.”

On Skincare…
“The best thing I can do for my skin - I don’t go in the sun at all. I decided when I was 21 that I wouldn’t sunbathe anymore. I have the whitest skin so I do get a bit of tan envy now and then! I’m obsessed with moisturising, too. I used to have bad skin and I realised it was through dryness. So now I use the best products I can get my hands on. I’m pretty low maintainance on the whole. Less is more for me. A good moisturiser, plenty of sleep and water make all the difference. I tend not to eat too much sugar too.”

On Fragrance…
“It’s amazing how someone can fill a room with their scent. I always buy a new fragrance when I go on holiday, as when you smell the fragrance after, it instantly takes you back to your holiday.”
