My Brazil: Adriana Degreas
It’s an accepted fact that Brazilian’s know their swimwear, and surely none more so than designer Adriana Degreas. With stylish fans including Charlotte Olympia’s Charlotte Dellal, an Adriana Degreas swimsuit is sure-fire way to beachside success. We caught up with the designer to quiz her on another subject she knows all about, Rio de Janeiro, to find out what to do, drink and buy in the city.
If I had 12 hours in Rio I would first visit the Niterói Contemporary Art Museum. Designed by Oscar Niemeyer, it is one of the city’s main landmarks. Then I’d head to the Copacabana Hotel, where I held my first fashion show, to have drinks by the pool.
My favourite restaurant in Rio is Olympe, in the Jardim Botanico neighbourhood.
My top beach spots in Brazil are the beaches in Fernando de Noronha, Ipanema in Rio de Janeiro and Trancoso in Bahia.
Brazilian style is to be a part of every race, and to have a heart overflowing with the greatness of art, poetry and music; there’s no such thing as moderation. It ranges from the coolness of bossa nova to the rigour of modernist architecture, but, for me, it is always about freedom and spontaneous sensuality.
Don’t forget to pack a bikini, of course, plus a pair of oversize sunglasses and lots of light clothing.
Don’t leave Brazil without a pair of Havaianas.
