My Brazil: Charlotte Dellal
In the second of our My Brazil series, we caught up with Charlotte Olympia’s half-Brazilian founder and designer, Charlotte Dellal, to find out her top tips for a trip to Rio de Janeiro.
The first thing I do when I arrive in Rio and the last thing I do before I leave is go for a run up and down Ipanema Beach, followed by a dip in the sea and a fresh coconut. The view is one of my favourites in the world. I love to do nothing but lie on the beach and enjoy my surroundings. Rio is a special place and it re-energises me.
When I'm in Rio I'm very relaxed and live a beach life. I love to go to a juice bar where they make fresh juices from a huge selection of beautiful fruit on display and great sandwiches. Bibi Sucos in Leblon is a favourite.
The best place for cocktails is Carioca da Gema in Lapa for some beer, caipirinhas and all-night samba dancing.
The three items I always pack for Brazil are my Charlotte Olympia Capri Cats because they’re perfect for beach or poolside, a pair of vintage sunglasses and Esthederm sunscreen.
My favourite Brazilian designer is my aunt, Patricia Viera, who makes the most beautiful leather clothing. Using special techniques, she can make leather look like lace, among other things.
The best beach spot in Brazil has to be Rio – I’m half Brazilian so it is my home away from home.
I get my culture fix in Brazil from Rio de Janeiro’s Jardim Botanico. It’s a special place in the middle of the city; a botanical park that houses amazing plants, flowers and species of birds. It has a great view of Christ the Redeemer and the forest above, too. I also love the Carmen Miranda Museum, which is absolutely tiny despite her larger-than-life personality. It’s charming and houses photographs, costumes and some of her famous sky-high platforms.
I can't leave Brazil without new swimwear. Adriana Degreas does the most fantastic pieces that can be worn both on and off the beach.
