The Hot Ticket: For Your Eyes Only

Housed in its founder’s former home on Venice’s Grand Canal, the Peggy Guggenheim Collection is one of the world’s most reputable museums for 20th Century European and American art, and this summer it extends its offering to include For Your Eyes Only: A Private Collection, from Mannerism to Surrealism.

In a veritable 2-for-1 of private collections, alongside the Guggenheim’s permanent display of works by Picasso, Pollock, de Chirico and Calder, to name but a few, For Your Eyes Only unveils a selection of paintings, sculptures and artefacts amassed by Basel-based collectors, Richard and Ulla Dreyfus-Best.

With pieces ranging from the Middle Ages to present day, the collection is presented as if a cabinet of curiosities, placing Surrealist paintings beside Baroque master drawings, in an attempt to break down the subdivides – era, genre, ‘style’ – to which art is often subjected.

A cultural stop off for those en route to the Dalmatian coast this summer, make like Peggy Guggenheim herself and let flamboyant accessories bring a sense of fun to your holiday look; shop our favourites below.

For Your Eyes Only. A Private Collection, from Mannerism to Surrealism runs until Sunday 31st August at the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, Venice.
