The Hot Ticket: The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier
Few fashion designers boast such colourful careers as famed French couturier, Jean Paul Gaultier. From stage to screen and sidewalk to catwalk, Gaultier captivates audiences the world over with his witty, boundary-pushing designs. Now a major exhibition devoted to the fabulous Frenchman allows fans to delve into his wondrous world of fashion at London’s Barbican Art Gallery.
The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier: From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk showcases more than 165 of Gaultier’s cutting-edge couture and ready-to-wear garments. Deliberately designed as an installation rather than a conventional fashion retrospective, this theatrically-staged exhibition presents pieces from the early 1970s right up to the present day, many of which are being shown in Britain for the very first time. Highlights include the iconic conical bra and corsets from Madonna’s 1990 Blond Ambition World Tour, stage costumes for Kylie Minogue and garments created for the films of Spanish director, Pedro Almodôvar.
Running until Monday 25th August 2014, The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier: From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk is an enthralling exhibition that promises to tantalise the taste buds of everyone; fashion fan or foe.
