The Hot Ticket: Henri Matisse - The Cut-Outs
Eye-popping colour, graphic theatricality, an overwhelming sense of freedom; Tate Modern’s new, must-see exhibition, Henri Matisse: The Cut-outs, has got it all.
Plagued by ill health and unable to paint, Matisse first started cutting out and placing pieces of painted paper as a form of drafting but, in turn, the artist invented an entirely new and exciting medium.
The exhibition brings together over 120 of the cut-out works, created between 1936 and 1954, to offer the chance to get up close but also be engulfed by the spectacular, often large-scale works.
Henri Matisse: The Cut-Outs opens today until Sunday 7th September at Tate Modern.
