Michael Kors Celebrates Icons Of Style
Kicking off his Icons Of Style curated film series, Michael Kors played host to his three leading ladies; Kate Hudson, Ali MacGraw and Rene Russo in a panel discussion on all things fashion and film. Led by Vanity Fair’s Elizabeth Saltzman, in a candid and often hilarious discussion, the panel shared some of their experiences in the film industry and their thoughts on the evolution of fashion.
Introducing why he selected the three actresses on stage and their three movies - Almost Famous, Love Story and The Thomas Crown Affair, the designer said: “These three characters are part of my psyche. I can’t be a designer who only dresses one kind of woman. I prefer to dress a whole variety of personalities.”
Effortlessly elegant as ever in an embroidered halter dress and black Doris sandals from the Michael Kors Resort 2015 Collection, Rene Russo, star of The Thomas Crown Affair, explained how she had actually approached the designer to help with the costumes on the movie: “I just thought, “Thank God I’ve got amazing clothes." The clothes made the film.” And, revealing that she actually kept a few pieces from her costume wardrobe, the actress admitted she still wears them to this day.
And if Rene went for a more low-key look, Kate Hudson, star of Almost Famous, went all-out in a black crystal-embroidered pajama shirt, trousers and black belt from the Michael Kors Fall 2015 collection. Sharing her thoughts on red carpet dressing, the actress explained: “I never let anyone push me into wearing something I don’t want to wear. I need to feel comfortable, it has to feel free. I want to be able to party in it.”
Sharing his secret to red carpet styling, Michael said: “Some people come to me with a Cinderella complex, trying to transform into someone else. You want to be the most incredible version of you. I need to know what you like about yourself, what you don’t like about yourself, and then I can work from there.”
Star of the iconic movie Love Story, Ali MacGraw was utterly chic in a white French-cuff shirt, black skirt, black Somers pumps all from the Michael Kors Spring 2015 Collection. On the incredible '70s wardrobe of her character Jenny in the movie, the actress shared: “It wasn’t reflective of my personal style. But I had no idea it would become so iconic.”
And despite opting for her super opulent look on stage, Kate Hudson revealed her signature fashion trick, admitting: “I’m really happy in jeans and a tee with cute sunglasses and a purse. When I travel I keep a few pairs of different sunglasses with me and a few purses to switch it up. I like to keep it simple with pops of colour.”
Presenting the films to a star-studded audience, including Poppy Delevingne, Uma Thurman, Samantha Barks, Erin O’Connor, Lily Donaldson, Clémence Poésy, plus bloggers Kristina Bazan and Camille Charriere, after the panel, Michael Kors presented the first movie screening - Love Story, with Almost Famous and The Thomas Crown Affair screening on the subsequent evenings.
