Discover Your Fragrance Wardrobe
The most personal part of a beauty routine, the scent you wear can reflect a mood, the season, an event you’re attending or, it can represent a distinct memory or important person. From a time-honoured classic that you spritz for a confidence boost to the perfume you save for special occasions because it reminds you of a truly happy time, we all have a fragrance wardrobe that we turn to time and again that’s filled with our ever-changing (or maybe, never-changing) perfume arsenal.
"The art of wardrobing allows you to create an invisible aura and enhance elements of your personality depending on your choice of perfumes," says designer and perfumer, Clive Christian. "If I was heading to a meeting where I wished to leave an enduring impression, I would choose a single perfume: the clean, feminine elegance of our V For Women - a floral chypre with the extraordinary complexity of 296 different ingredients including mimosa, neroli and orange blossom, which are delicate and pretty, along with amber and sandalwood, which reflect a strength of character in the sophistication and warmth of their bases. For an important dinner, I would add No 1 For Men (an oriental leather) to my base of V For Women, which would encourage me to walk taller with my head held high feeling the confidence of the ancient indian Sandalwood."
Not just reserved for your dressing table, fragrance also plays a big part in transforming the feel of a home. Aerin Lauder, granddaughter of Estée Lauder and the founder and Creative Director of beauty brand, AERIN, says: "During the fall and winter months, I typically look to layer in deeper scents that evoke warmth such as pine, fir balsam, clove, and sandalwood. For spring and summer, I love the fresh scents of geranium, rose, jasmine, amber, gardenia, orange flower, and young blonde wood and earthy musk."
To celebrate National Fragrance Day on Tuesday 21st March 2017, Harrods has teamed up with the The Fragrance Foundation to offer personal consultations in-store so that you can discover your own bespoke wardrobe. Find out how scents can be created to suit different moods, or altered to reflect various room settings – "I have always found candles to be very uplifting – they set the mood when entertaining and they can easily transform the feeling of a space. When pairing a candle scent with a room, it’s important to decide what kind of feeling you are trying to convey," says Aerin.
Paying particular tribute to three fragrance families – citrus, wood and floral – our in-store team will help you find scents that represent you or a treasured memory by using your most-loved notes. "For a signature scent, I believe in choosing a fragrance that has a special meaning – something that evokes personal memories and emotions and this can of course change with experience and over time," says Aerin.
