Founded in Rome in 1960, Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli brought Valentino – and an excited troupe of couture fans and fashion editors – home to present the Autumn/Winter 2015 Couture collection. A parade of spectacular black gowns to start, texture was key and took in leather, lace, velvet, beading and more. While ancient symbolism looked back to Rome’s empirical history, a switch from black to Valentino red recalled the much-loved label’s own heritage. A standing ovation from Valentino Garavani himself provided a fitting conclusion to a masterful show.
Top trend: Rome rules again.
