Boucheron

Boucheron was Place Vendôme’s first jewellery maison, opened by Frédéric Boucheron beneath the arcades of Paris’ Palais Royal in 1858. Today, Boucheron is renowned for beautifully bold, elegant fine jewellery and watches characterised by distinctive stones and a free-spirited aesthetic. Counting members of the Russian Imperial family, the Maharaja of Patiala and Edith Piaf among its illustrious clientele of the past, the maison’s inclination towards perfect proportions and abstract forms has contributed to its enduring popularity. More than 50 years since its launch, the Serpent Bohème remains a key emblem – symbolising protection and eternity, while the Quatre collection combines materials and textures that continue to reinterpret Boucheron’s iconic codes.

In 1888, jeweller Frédéric Boucheron gifted his wife, Gabrielle, a necklace. Designed to act as a protective talisman, it depicted a twining serpent that would guard his inamorata and serve as an enduring symbol of his devotion. Thus, began the tale of Serpent Bohème and an haute joaillerie legacy, including the iconic Toi et Moi ring, that would represent love for centuries to come.

Maison Boucheron’s workshop has been based at its Place Vendôme hôtel particulier since 1893 – a creative haven above the bustle of Paris’ premier arrondissement. Innovation drives each and every artisan. Techniques such as the mosaic, mirror and airy settings were all invented in-house, as well as the clasp-free Point d’Interrogation necklace, created by Frédéric Boucheron himself.

Between supermodel Anja Rubik in Boucheron’s striking Lierre de Paris necklace and actress Shailene Woodley – who wore the high jewellery Plume de Paon earrings to the 72nd Cannes Film Festival, the A-list’s love of Boucheron is undeniable. Alessandra Ambrosio, Charlotte Rampling and Léa Seydoux are also among its glittering fan base.
