For over 60 years, Harrods has been the home of Father Christmas in London, welcoming wide-eyed children to experience magical festivities, including a visit to the Harrods Christmas Grotto. While toys may have changed increasingly over the past 60 years, a meeting with Father Christmas remains a memory that lasts a lifetime.
Ahead of Christmas 2018, we caught up with Father Christmas to ask him his favourite things about coming to Harrods for the festive season: “The excitement and the hustle and bustle of getting ready for Christmas, Harrods all lit up, its windows decorated to perfection, and, of course… easy parking on the roof.”
And not much has changed for Father Christmas, “love, family and friends; and time for a little self-indulgence,” are still the most important things about Christmas.
"Christmas is for children, first and foremost. I help keep the spirit of Christmas alive, which is very important."Father Christmas, The Harrodian Gazette 1955
How do I book a Grotto ticket?
This year, the Grotto experience was offered by invitation only to our most loyal Rewards customers.
Each year, we are overwhelmed by requests for this special experience, which we make every effort to facilitate. We care hugely about making a visit to the Grotto as magical as possible, therefore tickets are extremely limited. Unfortunately, we simply cannot meet the demand for places so if you did not receive the invitation e-mail, you are unfortunately not able to attend the Grotto this year.
How can I check if I am invited to the 2018 Christmas Grotto?
Those invited to book were sent an email on Wednesday 22nd August which included details of how to book their ticket.
If you have opted in to receive promotional content and did not receive this email, you have not been selected for an invitation to the Grotto this year.
We understand this may be disappointing but due to high demand for Grotto tickets, we are simply unable to accommodate everybody.
Does the Grotto allow walk-ins for customers without a booking?
We care hugely about making a visit to the Grotto as magical as possible. We aim to deliver each and every customer who visits the Grotto a truly tailored experience, which includes the chance to discuss their personal Christmas wishes with Father Christmas.
Unfortunately, this means we cannot accommodate walk-ins.
What if I need to cancel or amend my booking?
If you can no longer attend the Grotto, we ask that you call to cancel your booking on +44 (0)333 300 2300.
If you cancel at least 3 days before the date of your booking you will be refunded in full to your credit/debit card. If you cannot attend your allocated booking slot but do not cancel at least 3 days prior to your booking date, unfortunately your ticket fee will not be refunded to you (regardless of whether you attend the Grotto).
We will endeavour, wherever possible, to accommodate alterations to booking time, date or party size. However, please note that our Grotto experience is extremely popular and as such, rescheduled dates and times will be limited and cannot be guaranteed.
What other Christmas activities are happening at Harrods?
Harrods is a magical place at Christmas, and we hope you join us for activities happening across the store. Please check the events page in the run up to the festive season for further information.
